Now With Advanced Ceramide Therapy

Clinical studies have shown that dry and damaged skin is often linked to depleted ceramide levels. While traditional lotions only hydrate the skin's surface, Curel® moisturizers work at the source of dryness by helping boost skin's natural ceramide levels. Our ceramide-rich formulas lock in moisture by strengthening skin's barrier over time - not just relieving symptoms, but, with continued use, actually preventing dry skin and irritation from returning.

What are Ceramides?

The outer, protective, nonvascular layer of the skin, covering the dermis, is the epidermis. And the outermost layer of the epidermis is the stratum corneum(SC). The SC is the main barrier of the skin that keeps chemicals that come in contact with the skin from absorbing into the body. The SC also keeps water inside the skin from leaking out.

Ceramides are natural lipids that are a major component in the surface skin structure. They serve as part of the “glue” that holds surface skin cells together. Lipids are natural fats which play an essential role in maintaining healthy skin hydration and structure. Skin lipids include ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids which are important nutrients for your skin.

Ceramides play a critical role in the skin's water-retention capacity. In anti-aging or maintenance skin care, they improve the skin's barrier function, which leads to increased moisturization.

Dry, irritated, and sensitive skin often lacks ceramides. As a result, skin’s protective barrier is compromised and becomes more susceptible to environmental factors, changes of season, and other irritants.

Curel® moisturizers contain an intensive hydrating ingredient and synthetic pseudoceramide. While the hydrating ingredient re-hydrates the skin by replenishing the skin’s natural moisture, the pseudoceramide helps to replenish and strengthen the skin barrier to help lock in moisture and keep irritants out. The formula easily penetrates the barrier to improve rough skin texture without leaving a greasy layer on the skin surface.

Why are Ceramides Important?

Ceramides occur in healthy skin naturally. They help lock moisture in the skin, help keep irritants out and help to strengthen the skin barrier to keep it healthy. Your skin’s ceramide levels naturally deplete over time and with environmental exposures. When these levels are depleted, skin is weakened and becomes more sensitive to irritants such as detergents and environmental factors. Only Curel® moisturizers offer Advanced Ceramide Therapy, a new way to moisturize your skin by actually replenishing skin’s ceramide levels. Within two weeks of use, skin strength is restored with moisture and skin sensitivity is dramatically reduced.

Curel® Moisturizers - The Ceramide Difference

Curel® moisturizers' formulas containing ceramides work similarly to the natural ceramides found in skin. Locking in moisture for all-day hydration, Curel® moisturizers not only relieve irritated and dry skin instantly, but also help to replenish and help repair dry skin by forming a protective barrier and keeping future irritants out.
